Ogden FamilySearch Library

The Ogden FamilySearch Library is located at 539 East 24th Street in Ogden, Utah. (Back door)

They have a staff of over 300 volunteers and missionaries who can help you, one-on-one, to find your ancestors.

They have about 140 computers which are available to the public for genealogical research.

They teach classes on a wide variety of genealogical subjects including the use of the most popular genealogical database computer programs including Ancestral Quest, Legacy and Roots Magic.

For information on coming classes click on this LINK. Note that sometimes the class list resembles old mother Hubbard’s cupboard. If this happens look up at the two adjacent buttons labeled Courses. Click the one which is not green. This seems to make it work.

How I can I learn how to use the Research Manager & To Do list and what they are capable of doing?

    • Wow! To Do/Research appears simple on the surface, but it has some powerful tools which expand it into a very useful and powerful research tool. I guess I should write an article on this topic for AQ Will Do. In the mean time, I have two suggestions.

First, use the Add To Do/Research Item button to open the Edit To Do/Research Item screen. This button is found just to the left of the blue Research Manager button on the Menu bar. When the screen opens, click on the Help button. Read the To Do Items help screen. When you have read this, go to the links at the bottom of the screen. Click on Research Manager. Read the Research Manager help screen. When you finish it, use the Back button to return you to the To Do Items help screen. Go to the bottom of this screen, and this time click on Research Log Report. Read this screen. When you have finished it, go to the bottom of the screen and click on Research Manager Sort. This brings up a screen with the title Research Items Sort. When you have read this screen, click on the Back button. This time, at the bottom of the screen, click on Research Manager Filter. Read this screen. This is a lot of reading, and these directions are convoluted, but it will give you some insight into what you can do with this tool.

Second, get a copy of the Ancestral Quest Version 14 Users Guide, and read chapter nine. This chapter discussed the Research Manager.

Just a hint. I haven’t found a way to clear the Category drop down window, so think hard before you start adding entries there.

I’ll do some more investigating, and post an article about this subject in AQ Will Do.

I would like to hear from you!
